How to Disable Reviews in WooCommerce (Video Included)

There may be times when you want to disable the reviews in WooCommerce to avoid negative feedback or for some other reasons. Fortunately, WooCommerce gives you a built-in feature to disable the reviews in your store.

I’ll walk you through the process of disabling the reviews in WooCommerce. I’ll also share some scenarios when you as a store owner want to disable the reviews. 

So, without any further ado, let’s jump into the tutorial. 

When Should You Disable Reviews in WooCommerce?

As an online store owner, there are several scenarios in which you might consider disabling product reviews on your WooCommerce store. However, remember that disabling reviews should be done thoughtfully and may not always be the best approach. 

Here are some scenarios when you might want to disable reviews:

  1. Low-Quality or Problematic Products: If your store sells products with known quality issues or frequent problems that could result in negative reviews, you may want to temporarily disable reviews while you work to improve the product quality. This can prevent further damage to your brand’s reputation.
  2. Unmanageable Review Volume: If your store has a large catalog of products and limited resources to effectively moderate the reviews, you may want to turn off reviews to avoid too many uncontrolled comments that could hurt your business.
  3. Regulatory Compliance: In some cases, regulatory or legal requirements in your industry or region may dictate that you disable or restrict product reviews to ensure compliance with specific rules and guidelines.

It’s important to note that while these scenarios justify disabling reviews in the short term, it’s often advisable to work on addressing the underlying issues and re-enable reviews once those issues are resolved or manageable. How to Disable Reviews in WooCommerce?

When you install the WooCommerce plugin, product reviews are enabled by default. The following are the steps to disable them. 

1. Navigate to Global Product Settings

First, navigate to WooCommerce > Settings > Products > General from your WordPress dashboard. 

2. Globally Disable Reviews in WooCommerce

Once you are in the global settings of the product, scroll to the bottom of the page and uncheck the ‘Enable Product Reviews’ checkbox to disable the reviews in WooCommerce. 

Unchecking it will completely disable the reviews and your customers won’t see the review section and they also won’t be able to leave reviews. 

3. Save Settings

Once you have unchecked it, click the ‘Save Changes’ button to save the settings. 

4. Final Results

Once the settings are saved, let’s test it. 

To test it, I first visited the product page of one of the products in my store without disabling the reviews. As you can see the review section is there and I can leave a review as a customer. 

Now, when I disabled the reviews in my demo WooCommerce store, I couldn’t see the reviews section on any of my product pages
