There can be several reasons to add restrictions to payment options. This tutorial will help you to restrict any WooCommerce payment option based on different conditions.
Unlike other tutorials, I won’t use any custom code to get the final results.
I’ll be using the Conditional Shipping and Payments plugin to restrict the WooCommerce payment options.
After reading this tutorial, you will be able to restrict any payment option/method based on different conditions in just a few clicks.
Here’s a quick sneak peek of the final results.
So without any further ado, let’s jump into another tutorial.

1. Install and Activate the Conditional Shipping and Payment Plugin
Note: You can skip this step if you have already installed and activated the Conditional Shipping and Payments plugin.
To install the Conditional Shipping and Payments plugin, you will need to install the Woosuite Core plugin and activate it with the help of a license key. We have created a Quick Start Guide for you to figure out how to install and activate the Conditional Shipping and Payments plugin.
2. Navigate to Shipping & Payments
Once the plugin is installed and activated, navigate to the Woosuite » Shipping & Payments from your WordPress admin dashboard.
3. Click the Payment Gateways Tab
Click the ‘Payment Gateways’ tab from the plugin’s settings to add payment option restrictions in WooCommerce.
4. WooCommerce Restrict Payment Options
To restrict the payment options in WooCommerce, click the ‘Add Restriction’ button.
Once you click the button, a rule will be added that you can customize as you want to restrict the payment options based on different conditions.
4.1. Add a Short Description
First, we need to add a short description of the rule we are creating in the “Short Description” field. Adding the explanation is unnecessary, but it will be helpful if you have created multiple rules.
4.2. Select the Payment Options
After that, you need to select the payment options/methods for setting the payment restrictions.
The selected methods will be excluded based on the condition we’ll add in the next step from the checkout, and users won’t be able to see those methods on checkout.
Please select the payment options from the ‘Exclude Gateways’ field.
4.3. Add a Condition
From the ‘Add Condition’ dropdown, you need to select the condition you want to add to restrict the payment option selected above.
When the selected condition is fulfilled, the payment option chosen will be restricted, and users won’t be able to use that method.
You can add the following conditions:
- Backorder
- Billing Country
- Category
- Coupon Code
- Customer
- Customer Role
- Order Total
- Package Item Count
- Product On Sale
- Shipping Class
- Shipping Country
- Shipping Method
- Shipping Postcode
You can add any condition you want. But for this tutorial, I am selecting the ‘OrderTotal’ condition.
I’ll create a rule stating that if the total order is less than $100, then exclude the check payments option from the checkout.
Once you select any condition, new fields will be created besides it to configure the condition.
In my case, I have selected the total order condition, so now I need to add the total order price and select the sign to restrict the WooCommerce payment options.
You can also delete the rule and add more conditions. If you add more than one condition in a single rule, if both are true, then the rule will be applied at the checkout.
Similarly, if you create more than one restriction rule, both will be applied based on each rule’s conditions.
5. Save Changes
Once you have added the restriction, click the green “Save Changes” button at the top right corner of your screen to save the changes and apply the payment option restriction rule.
6. Final Results
Now, let’s test the rule.
To test it, I added a few products to my cart with a total order of more than $100, and as you can see in the screenshot below, I could complete the checkout using all three available payment options.
But now, when I reduced the cart total to less than $100, the check payment method is not visible on the checkout.
