Note: You can skip this step if you have already installed and activated the WooCommerce Variation Swatches plugin.
To install the WooCommerce Variation Swatches plugin, you will need to install the Woosuite Core plugin and activate it with the help of a license key. We have created a Quick Start Guide for you to figure out how to install and activate the WooCommerce Variation Swatches plugin.
From the WordPress Admin Dashboard, navigate to Woosuite » Variation Swatches.
3. Enable Color Swatches
Now, enable the Variation Swatches by toggling the button. You can enable this to display the color attributes as color swatches.
Note: You can enable the color swatches or leave it to the default WooCommerce dropdown to show the attribute description.
4. Select Attributes
Now, select the attributes you want to display on the product page. You can select the attribute by checking the box.
Note: For this tutorial, I assume you have already set up the product attributes and variations. If you haven’t set up the attributes, then you can do it by navigating to the Products » Attributes.
As this tutorial is about showing the description of the attribute on the product page so I am showing the “Color” attribute on the product page so that when the user selects a color, he/she will be able to see the attribute description of the selected color.
So, I’ll be checking the Color box.
5. Enable the Attribute Description
Now scroll down a bit until you see the “Enable the Attribute Description‘ toggle button. The attributes description will be displayed on the product page by toggling this button.
To enable it, click on the toggle button.
6. Save Changes
Now click on the green Save Changes button at the top right corner of your screen to save the settings.
7. Add the Attribute Description
Now that we have enabled the attribute description, we need to add the attribute description so that when a user will click on the color swatches, he/she will see the description of that color attribute.
To add the attribute description, click on the “Configure Items“ under your selected attribute. As in this case, we have selected the Color attribute, so I’ll see it under the color attribute.
Once you click it you’ll be redirected to the page from where you can add and edit the items in the Color attributes.
As I mentioned earlier, I already created the Color attribute and added a few colors. If you haven’t created any attribute, you first need to create the product attribute to follow along with the process.
7.1. Edit the Item in Color Attribute
Now to add the attribute description, we need to edit the items. You can edit the item by hovering your mouse over the item name and then clicking on the “Edit” button.
7.2. Add the Description
After that, you’ll reach the page from where you can add the description for the attribute. Now, add the attribute description in the “Description“ field and click on the “Update” button to update and save the attribute description.
By following these steps, I added the description for all the color attributes that I created in my store.
Now let’s see the final results.
I visited the product page of one of the products in my store and when I selected its color variation, I could see its description.
